About Us

The Tauranga Rock'n'Roll Club Incorporated was first formed in 1983 in Tauranga, in New Zealand's Bay of Plenty in the North Island.

In October of that year, while reminiscing about their teenage years, Joyce Story and Nancy Ronald decided to advertise for any interest in starting a Rock’n’Roll Club.  About 70 people attended the inaugural meeting held at the TS Chatham Club Hall on The Strand.  Due to the interest shown, the Club moved to the Town Hall for Club nights.

The first Committee was elected soon afterwards and subsequently moved Club nights to the YMCA Hall in Cameron Road where they stayed for the next 19 years.  When the YMCA Hall was demolished, the Club moved to their present location at the Tauranga RSA.

The first Club Champs was held in 1985 and the Open Trophy called The Founders Cup was competed for.  The winners were S. Sant and B.J. Thompson.  Club Championships have evolved from that night with numerous sections being competed in.

Over the years, the Club Members have competed at local and national levels with some success.  Three National Competitions (2 x Senior Nationals and 1 x Junior Nationals) have been organized and run very successfully by the Tauranga Rock'n'Roll Club.

The Club continues to be active both socially and competitively.
